A loft can look dry enough from the hatch and still be holding the early signs of a serious moisture problem. If you have spotted damp insulation, black mould on the felt, water droplets on timbers, or a musty smell in the roof space, the question is usually the same – what causes roof condensation problems, and is it a repair issue or a ventilation issue? In many cases, it is a mix of both.

Roof condensation happens when warm, moisture-laden air rises from the living space below and meets colder surfaces in the roof. Once that air cools enough, the moisture turns into water.
